Improving Housing Standards on Hollybank Road

Recently, I wrote to residents on Hollybank Road to ask about the condition of their homes. Many reported ongoing problems with damp, mould, leaks, and poor-quality repairs.

To see these issues firsthand, my team joined Birmingham City Council officers, local councillors, and the Tenant Management Organisation for a full walkaround of the flats.

A lack of regulation has allowed too many properties to fall into disrepair.

That’s why I supported the Renters’ Rights Bill and Awaab’s Law, which force social landlords to fix damp, mould, and emergency repairs within strict timeframes.

Following the visit, I wrote to the Cabinet Member for Housing calling for a clear plan to improve the blocks. I’m pleased to say the Council has committed to a programme of upgrades across all six blocks. This will include roofing work, insulation, window replacements, ventilation upgrades, structural repairs, and improvements to communal areas.
