A Personal Update

Serving my country has been the greatest honour of my life. Earlier this month, I made the difficult decision to resign as Minister for The Armed Forces in the Ministry of Defence. This choice was not made lightly, but it reflects my deep commitment to honesty and principle in public service.

Why I Resigned

For years, I have dedicated myself to both military service and government work, always with the goal of protecting and strengthening the United Kingdom. Yet, I reached a point where I could no longer reconcile my role in government with serious concerns about the pace of defence reform and the level of investment required to meet the challenges we face.

The world is becoming more uncertain, with new threats emerging rapidly. Our defence forces need to adapt and be properly equipped to respond effectively. I felt the current approach was not moving fast enough or investing enough resources to ensure our security. Staying silent would have compromised my values and the trust placed in me by the people I serve.

What This Means for Me and My Community

Although my role in government has changed, my dedication to the people of Selly Oak remains unchanged. I will continue to work every day on behalf of our community, raising the issues that matter most to local residents. Whether in Parliament or here at home, I am committed to being a strong voice for Selly Oak.

This transition allows me to focus more directly on local concerns, from improving public services to supporting local businesses and community groups. I believe that effective representation starts with listening closely and acting decisively on the needs of the people I represent.

Looking Ahead

My focus now is on continuing to serve Selly Oak with the same energy and commitment. I will keep pushing for improvements in defence policy from outside the ministerial role, and I will work closely with local leaders and residents to address the challenges we face together.

The road ahead will require persistence and collaboration. I encourage everyone in our community to stay engaged, share their concerns, and work with me to build a stronger, safer future for all.
